As ever, a brilliant analysis - thanks, Sam. While it’s grim that it’s happening, it’s good that it’s being exposed - the far more worrying thing would be if we weren’t hearing anything about this, which also leads me to think, what else aren’t we hearing about.
“It’s a theatrical insurgency – acting like the outsider while hosting champagne breakfasts with billionaires; railing against the establishment while banking its cheques”.
This is how the progressives should deal with Farage. Emphasise this. The main stream media won’t do it!!
Can anybody explain how any business can consider it profitable to pay a six-figure sum to an "ambasador" who does four hours of work a month for them?
Great piece, but he intends to do far more than let people donate to Reform via Bitcoin. For instance, cutting the capital gains tax rate on windfalls from Bitcoin and other crypto assets to10%; forcing the Bank of England to store Bitcoin in a strategic reserve; ensuring that banks cannot close users’ accounts if they are trading in cryptocurrencies; and letting people pay their tax in Bitcoin. To me, although I'm not an economist, it looks as if he intends using crypto to try to ensure that his economic policies, which are even more extreme than those of Truss, are sheltered from what would undoubtedly be the highly negative reaction of the markets. And this, presumably, is one of the reasons why he's spending so muvch time in the US, laying the groundwork.
Reform have 4 MPs. There are 650 MPs in total. Therefore in order to be representative, Reform should have <1% of the airtime on political matters. Labour, as our elected government, should have 61%, conservatives 18%, lib dems 11%, and the remainder split between the smaller parties and independents. For clarity, that means I expect to hear from Nigel Farage and his party for 22 seconds out of a 1 hour political show. At present you are being biaised and legitimising their racism.
Sam - you are way too tentative on this. Farage told a Telegraph televised audience in May 2024 and hosted by Camilla Tominey that he was living his best life making more money than he had ever made in the past and saw no reason to trade that for politics. Do you think he will stop if he gets to No.10? Where for example are the votes for all those members of a company limited by guarantee? Why is the ReformUK Facebook account still said to be owned by the Brexit Party? Why has Yusuf said Reform MPs cannot look forward to positions in Cabinet? Why is Farage cozying up to DJT and getting his propaganda machine on board? See where this goes?
Excellent analysis and insight but I just wish it wasn’t true. It’s an uphill battle to prevent us following the same path as the US.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you!
Perfect summary of Farage as Trump lite…

Trump isn’t popular with the UK electorate.
